As others said the Roadie is a noisey motor. You can try different brands of synthetics which I did and settled with amsoil.
but that's a personal choice. And stay with 87 octane.

hi everybody, new guy here,i have a 2007 roadstar midnite with 400 mi on it, and a very annoying knock. it gives evey indication of a rod knock, the noise speeds up and slows down with throttle movement. i had it in to the dealer and he told me they hear the noise, looked for chips in the oil, talked to yamaha and decided i should put more miles on it as these engines are noisy. does this sound right to you more knowlegable folks?

You could try getting the Yamalube oil out of there and going to a good 20/50 synthetic oil and see if it quiets down. Mine has a knock on the front cyl. Has had for a long time. Some Roadies get the knock, some don't. Doesn't seem to hurt anything but sounds like hell. I'm not saying thats what you have though and as long as it's under warranty don't let them blow you off with their usual excuses.

They're relatively noisy, esp. behind a windshield. But it's a mechanical rhythm, not an "oh my god, where's THAT coming from" sound. BB

Like the Bear said, they whir and chatter, but if you have a solid sounding hammer, I would question it..

Agree with BB on this: I never knew just how noisy they were till I installed my windshield. You'd think there were little gnomes on speed in there will ball peens having a party. I've come to accept that it's just the nature of the beast.

You can stop that knocking sound by putting some loud pipes on your ride. Well, it won't stop, but you won't be able to hear it

Tough to say what you have is normal or not.

Are you using regular octane?

When I did my valve adjusment and took the covers off a bunch
of little grimlins fell out and I never like to have got them back in
as they were not color coded. Seemed to quiet down.
