yeah i understand what you're saying but i honestly feel like my dealer is trully trying to help and wants to provide good quality service...and i am not be naive!

the dealership is about 45 miles from home and i dont have a trailer to haul my bike so its always an adventure to get it to him and then pick it up. i voiced all my concerns about having future problems and he said if i run a little of the ring free as a preventative then i shouldn't have any future issues.

he did, however, state that the problem with the valves is due to the 1700's heads being re-designed. he said he has never had any problems with the valves on a 1600! he is pretty honest with me about all that stuff, and i guess i trust him. he does acknowledge, like you said, that the bike shouldn't do this if its setup right; but then again what can you do if yamaha won't support the dealers??

i guess i am just very lucky to have a great dealer! i had a 650 v-star as my first bike and when the passenger seat was recalled because of the bolt breaking i was living in Tennessee, but i purchased the bike locally in south ga. the dealership in tennessee refused to perform the recall work, said i had to take it to the dealer i bought it from! after contacting yamaha, they informed that dealer that the were required by law to perform the recall work.

it is great to be back home and have a dealer that wants to help and is there for support...i call all the time with stupid questions!!

law, sounds like you have a real _$$hole for a dealer. sorry man!!
