I got that done about a week after I got it. My buddy has got an 02 Midnight and he says my factory pipes are just too quite (lol)and I hear the engine noise more. If it makes you feel any better I pretty much asked the same things when I first got on here. My pipes are quiet too, so engine "clatter" is not hard to hear. The synthetic oil will reduce it some, but not down to what you might expect from a water cooled bike. You'll find lots of good info. here from folks way more experienced than me. Welcome and enjoy! I thought mine was noisy with just the windshield, then I added lowers and she really made weird noises. Then I went to a 3/4 helmet from a half helmet for winter, once again more weird noises.
