BRAKE JOB 11 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Don't know if I missed it or I am just getting ultra lazy, but I think I need to do a brake job on my 05 midnite roadie. I notices some glazing that would not flake off of the rear brake rotor and I am currently at around 14k miles. I don't recall how many miles I am supposed to go in between brake jobs and I figured while the freezing rain is falling this might be the best time to do something. So what I am asking is this
'
what are the detailed instructions on how to do it?
should I do something like this myself? (brakes tend to scare the shit of of me cause if they fail, u die)
can the rear rotor be ground again like car rotors?
where do i get the brake pads?
the front looks untouched, should I do them anyway?

remember I am a moron so details details, details.... and I forget who it was that lived in Gainesville. I got a case of beer and a steak for ya if ya feel like helping one Saturday. Just an offer.

Thanks and I look foward to hearing the awesome replies.

clifdog there is no set mileage to change brake pads. Look at your pads
where they contact the rotors and check the wear indicaters, each pad has
a split down the middle. If you cannot see it your pad is wore out.
You will need a flash light to do this.If you rotors are just dirty you can take some brake cleaner and clean them off. At that milage your pads shouldn't be wore out.I'm getting ready to put front pads on mine at over 25,000 and their just half worn. Check the pads first though.
By the way there is a web site where you can download the directions
on changeing the pads. they are easy on the 04s and up. the pads come out from the top of the caliper and you don't have to take the caliper off.
If i knew where that web site was I would post it .Musky or Doc knows it.

Isn’t it unusual to have to change brake pads at 14k miles? Believe it or not I have 43k miles on mine and I’m gonna change them for the first time next Spring!

Sometime things get so boring that we must absolutely find something to do!

Depends on how much u use them... I have a 2001 GMC pickup with over 100,000 on it and it still has the original pads...

Ya that’s quite understandable but there’s a big margin between 14k miles and 43k miles, good grief I’m beginning to think that I’m driving like my old aunt Angelina!
