new brake line leaks. 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
my new winter project was adding braided lines all around the bike. all good but the front where it splits to the two calipers.

the new lines use two separate lines with a double banjo bolt.

it is leaking from the bolt area when the brake is applied .

i torqued to service manual spec, retorqued, overtorqued, pulled the new (silver) seals that came with the bolts and put in the old copper seals and still drip, drip

i never had a problem before with automobile caliper banjo bolts.

am i doing something wrong?

was going to pull all apart and measure and check the surfaces for true next. maybe some kind of sealent on the bolt?

i donīt like two line systems.

i normally make the lines up (3) to use the original splitter, as i prefer less line and reckon you get better feel. plus one line up to the bars is tidyer.

check at the double banjo bolt. the order should be bolt head > washer > banjo > washer > washer > banjo > washer > master cylinder.

some folks forget and only use one washer between the two banjos, and on some kits due to this the end of the bolt thread butts up against the master cylinder giving the impression itīs tight, but actually isnīt.

dismout and check all surfaces are clean as well.

P.S, do NOT use any kind of sealants!!!!

Get fresh copper seals and start over. The old ones have an impression on them, even if you can't see it (or feel it). Carry an old one with you to match up , as I've had some that were "universal" that were garbage, and allowed leaks just like you're saying. Fresh sealing washers should do the trick. BB

I FOUND THE LEAK.

THERE WAS A CHIP IN THE CHROME ON ONE OF THE BANJOS. THE CHROME AT THAT SPOT CHIPPED EASILY EVEN MORE WHEN I PICKED AT IT.

JUST PUT THE OLD HOSE ON.
