Rake and Fork 4 Years, 4 Months ago
Hey Doc, What length is your forks over stock? Your bike is stock height right? I got my front end on and it looks to be 4 inches over stock. Ive also got a 21" wheel

I'm 4" over in front .... stock front and rear tire diameters .... stock suspension height (not lowered) .... 6 degree raked trees.

With this combo I'm about 1.5" higher than level at the front floorboard bolt.

Thanks, with my 21" wheel the tire is 2" larger in diameter than stock. Lowering the rear is out of the question now so I I guess my only option would be to cut the neck to lower the front. It's ridable at this height if its not to nervous like I've read before. Do you have a problem at highway speeds, or is it just a different feeling?
Headshake? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for the help.

Before I had the longer forks the bike sat a little lower in front and it felt a bit 'nervous' at speed.

As you raise the front the rake comes back to stock so it begins to feel more like stock.

Except for the wider turning radius my bike feels almost like it did with the stock trees.

With 4 over and 2" larger diameter tire, your trail should be a bit more than stock. Probably good at highway but kinda tougher in parking lots.

hey doc, if i went the route of putting 6 deg trees on with stock forks, and lowered the rear end that should bring it level again right. so it should handle just fine but lean angle would suffer I would drag more parts when leaning hard in turns. I would think. just an idea. if i rakes out my bike i would try to keep it short and low.

You also have to take the trail into account. Too much or Too little will affect handling.

i was looking at the stuff on rakescycles website and think i seen doc's bike. I have a buddie with a 2001 roadie that we picked up lastnight. very nice shape. he wants to rake it out with out cutting the frame. and make it handle good and keep it low since he is short at 5'3" tall. just was looking for some insight on how to keep it handling good and give him what he wants.

Yes .... if you rake it 6 degrees and drop the rear about 1.5" you should be about level.

You'll notice a difference in handling (trail's a bit less than stock) but not anything to worry about.

You will scrape parts.
