New Braided Lines Need Advice 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
The new braided lines I ordered arrived yesterday. As I was surveying the job I noted that the brake line they shipped says for 99-03 Road Star. I have an 06. The front lines I received are for the correct year so no issue there. I note that the stock rear line on my bike has a formed 90 degree bend at both ends where as the Galfer line I received has a 90 on one end and only a very slight bend on the other. Can this line be used? I went back to Phat Performance site where I ordered it and there is no option for an 04 up line from Galfer. Goodridge has a different lines for 99-03 and 04 and up. I know there were changes in the brakes at 04, but do not know if there were any to the reat brake assembly.

Thanks for the help.

Bob, looked in a couple catalogs quickly for , could not find a Galfer line in either catalog (they make a good product, used them myself , not on the Roadie though) but what I did find was that the Russel line and Goodridge line for the Roadstar was the same from 99-07 (in the J&P catalog). That doesn't really answer your question, but seems like if one manufacturer makes one that goes the whole span other would too. BB

I too looked at several and found that Goodridge offers different lines for 04 an up. With that said, I looked at the Service Manual and the illustrations on one page show a 90 degree fitting at both ends and in another a straight at the master and a 90 at the caliper. I guess it is one of those we'll see when we get it all apart. I plan to call Phat Performance tomorrow and check to see if there is an 04 and up line.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I just went out and looked at mine, don't know if it will help you any, my bike is also an 06, the rear is a 90 degree, and the front looks tobe a 45? it is not bent quite as far as a 90. If the one you ordered has any kind of bend on the front it should work, a strait on the front would brobably stick out.....sounds like the one you have may work?

Thank you for checking. I hope it will work, as the bike is un-rideable once it is apart, but I think it will work just won't quite fit the way the stock line is now. I will let you all know how it comes out. I hope to get to it next weekend.

Well got my answer sort of, there has been no change in rear brake lines since 99. The one I have should fit although slightly different than the stock arrangement. We'll see next weekend.

Cruiserbob:

Let me know how it goes-I just ordered braided throttle, clutch and front brake lines for my '05. Haven't recieved them yet. Not sure if we ordered the same brand. Here's what I ordered:
Total
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BA-7300-02 Barons Big Johnson Handlebar 1 $134.95
$134.95
26338SC/26339SCBarnett Stainless Steel Throttle Cable Set - 1700 Roadstar (05-UP)
1 $74.95 $74.95
Length: +2" $10.00
$10.00
Finish: Stainless

26323SC Barnett Stainless Steel Clutch Cable - 1600/1700 Roadstar 1
$45.95 $45.95
Length: +2 $10.00
$10.00
Finish: Stainless

RStar-F-brake-SpGalfer S.S. Front Brake Cable Custom Size - RoadStar 1
$129.95 $129.95
Length: Plus 2"

As you can see, i got 2" plus. I'm going to route internally thru Big Johnson Bars I ordered. Don't know if I need the extra slack-using stock risers to start...I may if i use the extra risers I have laying around...

Let me know how it goes!

THX!!!

Re:New Braided Lines Need Advice 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
My scoot came stock with braided throttle and clutch cables, and we did order the same front lines I think. I am going with the stock arrangement of one line from the master that splits into 2 for the front. My issue was with the braided line for the rear, as the replacement, also Galfer, differs slightly from the stock line on the scoot. Can't wait to get the new lines on as I think they will look really good. I am also swapping out the Yamaha small engine guards with Kury pegs for a Lindby bar. I think it will look much cleaner than the folding pegs on the engine guards. I will have to post some new photos when I get it done.
