Custom Bike-Gas Tank 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
|
|
|
I'm customizing my 05' Roadstar. I was thinking about changing the tank (since it's huge and fat) but a buddy mentioned that I'll be giving up storage which means, I'll have to make more stops to the gas station.
The problem that I have with the current tank is, I hate the huge round speedo and Road star Insignia on the tank. Is it possible to remove everything off the tank so I'm only left with the gas cap. Then, I was going to install a tach on the bars.
What's your opinions?

I'm actually doing the very same thing right now. I have removed the speedo and dash and had the hole welded. I also relocated the gas cap to be a flush mount in the top center of the tank. I'm also adding a barons stretch on it because it makes it look a little slimmer.
I need to figure out the breather tube. I hate where it is located on the top of the tank. I have already had my cap welded in so i don't know what to do about the breather tube.
I'll post some photos if you like.

dudes, I appreciate the good suggestions. Ericking99, I would love to see some pictures. Smhowse, I forgot about ss custom. But, dang, that's expensive but I hate that huge speedo, dumb looking Roadstar insigna and fat tank. It makes my bike look like a tank coming down the road.

You don't need the breather tube .... buy a vented cap. Just be careful and don't fill the tank too high or the gas overflow once an a while and lift your paint.

I will post some pics next week as i am traveling back east right now. The $1000 for the tank is ove my budget as well so I am going it alone... with the help of my local dealer and the friendly folks on this site.

You can also vent the cap in 15 minutes with the tech tip section.

Sorry it took so long... I have been traveling. Here is the first of a few pics of my Frank-N-Tank! I was fortunate to have a friend of a friend to do the welding for me. He welded the dash hole and the gas cap hole which he then welded in a flush mount pop-up gas cap. I have installed a Baron's 3" tank extension... much easier than I thought it would be.
The photo I have attached is to this point. I still have toget some sheet metal and "close in" the front top section of the tank as it looks strange since there is no dash.
