2000 and earlier HD Forward Controls 4 Years, 3 Months ago
Has anyone put 2000-earlier HD forward controls on their R*? I did a couple of searches here and there and didn't find anything. I bought a set that are extened 2" and fabbed the adapters out of billet (I bought a 12x4.5x1.5 and 12x4.5x1.25 piece of billet). I bought these...

I mocked the raw adapters on the bike with the forward controls and everything lines up well. Before I polish the adapters and do the final assembly, I just wanted to ask if anyone who may have done this mod if there are some helpful suggestions. This has been a lot of work and I don't want to start polishing and final assembley if there is something that may cause me issues.

If anyone wants the templates I used to make the adapters, I'll gladly send them to you when I am done.

I didn't bother with the adapters. I removed the original plate to which the levers mount and made a new plate to fit the bolt holes on the bike. I also place the pivots on the plate so that the footrest fit comfortably.

Check out my website for the adapted HD FCs.

Caution of the eBay FCs .... the pegs don't fold. If you intend to lower the bike the pegs will hit the pavement.

My pegs fold and I've grounded my pegs down quite a bit.

Yeah, Doc! I noticed they don't fold. I have no plans to lower the bike and ride pretty conservatively, no real worries for me there. Wow! You took them off of the plates and made your own!!! The problem I would run into doing that is the spacing. These 00-ups are pulled in pretty tight to the frame without the adapters. With the adapters, my legs are out there a little more. I wear a 34-36 inch inseam and like the room. Still....I might find it easier......back to the drawing board for a little review....

I use 1" spacers between the frame and the plates to space the FCs out 'cause you're right, without spacing them out there too close to the frame.

Gotta ride bull legged that way.

Yup! Mee too! I'm bull legged. Taking a que from you....I took the pegs apart and realized that for the shifter arm pivot/axle I do not have the tools needed to recess it into the plate. Thats gotta be a 1 1/4 inch diameter indent. Don't have enough machining tools for that. I'll stick with the adapter plates. To get around the mounting holes not lining up, I staggered them so the adapter to frame mounting holes straddle the pegs mounting holes. I recessed the adapter plate mounting holes with a 7/8 inch bit so the peg plates mount flush right over the frame mounts. They line up just right. Matter of fact, with the two inch extention on the pegs the straddle puts my feet just behind the down tubes, at the same level as the boards were before I took them off. Comfortable riding position for me. This is one of those "got lucky" deals.

Sounds like yours are a bit different than mine. The pivot on mine was not recessed into the plate.

Glad you have it all worked out.

Hey Doc! I looked over you adapter details and didn't see anything about the brake light switch. How did you get that done? I'm stuck.....

Can you not use the switch that's built into the banjo bolt? K&S makes Them. BB
