Choke Adj. Question 5 Years, 12 Months ago
Noticed lately that when I pull my choke knob all the way out,
(I see a small notch) it pulls back in slightly. As I`m dialing in
my carb at this time. And Doc,still running rich with the 175 main,
needle on 3rd clip and PMS at 2 1/2.Was planning on turning the
PMS in another 1/2 turn this weekend. Thanks for any info on the
choke, found nothing in tech tips. Later vegasdave

Might be a dumb question but are you sure your choke isn't staying on all the time. That's why it starts without it?

Then I'd agree with you if you're doing a cold start. In Vegas when it's 110 I doubt that you need much choke anyways.

Do your exhaust gases make your eyes water and 'smell'? Do you get a black puff of smoke when you hit the throttle?

A DJ 175, 3, and 2.5 and the rest stock would generally run lean.

What about Musky's suggestion?

No puff of smoke, Idls really good,Can feel the choke come on when I pull it out.

as far as temp when I start my Bike.Nineties in the afternoon when I go home.Like I said the bikes running really good!! Did smeel bike did burn my eye and throat some,But no reall gassy smell How do Icheck the choke to see if it`s closing all the way? Also I did use the DynoJet 37 pilot encluded with the kit which they said to enstall with either stage one or stage two.

Post edited by: vegasdave, at: 2006/05/31 11:01

Ah ha I think we got something here. Go back to the stock pilot (#35). Keep everyting else the same. You should be able to re-jet your carb in 5 min by now.

Sounds like the choke is working. Black smoke with the choke on is normal.

You can try cleaning out the choke plunger in the carb body when you're changing the pilot. It's no big deal and you'll be confident that it sliding correctly.

Re:Choke Adj. Question 5 Years, 12 Months ago
Sounds good but the one I took out was marked 40,least I know what the stock
number is now, hopefullly the dealer will have one in stock.I was reluctant to
go back to the dealer where I had the work done and marked it off to experience.
I`m the one who fixed ALL the problems they had with the install of the pipes.
So, stay with the 175 main,stock 35 pilot,and 2 1/2 turns on the PMS.
5 min. alittle quick tho, when I take my time got it down to an hour

Post edited by: vegasdave, at: 2006/05/31 12:40
