Hard Starting 4 Years, 3 Months ago
My 2007 Silverado has become very difficult to start and then back fires, quits and dies for the first mile or two then settles down. Any body else have this issue? HELP!

Have you changed anything lately? Different gas? Premium or regular? What do the plugs look like? Try running some Seafoam, Ring free, or MMO through it and see if it helps. How do you ride? Lots of short trips? Do you run it out through each gear?

Re:Hard Starting 4 Years, 3 Months ago
I had a speedstar air kit, Dyno Jet kit (stage II) and 2 1/2 Roadburners installed when I purchased the bike. I run premium gas only. Last oil change I switched to semi synthetic Repsol Oil, she has 8,000 mi on her now. Trips are usually 100 miles. She was rejetted about three weeks ago, low end power is now great but she is still doing the start up sputter. I also noticed blue flame as she back fires! HELP.

First thing is to loose the premium gas these bike are made to run on 87 octaine not 97. Running the 97 will give you a real good case of SVS. Tell us what your jetting is and we can go from there how far out is your PMS, what main jet, pilot jet, needle settings? But most all run REGULAR.

Unless you've got high comp pistons running premium is wasting money and probably causing carbon. Our motors have too low of a compression ratio to burn premium correctly. You need to find out what your jetting is. Check your float level too. Could be an air leak at the intake or exhaust also.

I think Musky has you on the right track..from what I have read, you might have the beginnings of svs,,try one of those products he listed and see if it helps...

Re:Hard Starting 4 Years, 3 Months ago
I personally highly suggest trying Ring Free. It's expensive, I think around $30-$35/quart, but I tell you what....the shock treatment did wonders for my bike. It starts easier, runs smoother, and believe it or not it even sounds better. I think I"m going to do another shock treatment when riding season starts up just because I'm going to drain the winter oil anyway....so why not put the winter oil to use and do a shock treatment. I was skepticle about paying $35 for a quart of this stuff, but i"m glad I did it.

After watching your video, it looked and sounded like you were hitting your rev limit. My bike and everybody elses bike will do the same exact thing when you get on the throttle hard in the first couple gears and hit the rev limiter every time. If that is the case that you ride it like you stole it with the stock ignition, I would suggest getting an aftermarket ignition (dyna 3000, or even a speedstar ignition). They will raise your rev limit up to I believe 5000rpm rather than the stock 4500 or 4700rpm's. Otherwise I would start with the cheapest fix....new plugs. Try the new plugs first. Gap them at .034. Good luck man. by the way, thats a kick ass looking ride you got there, man.

I have another question for you....when did the problem start? Did you do anything different to your motor or carb before this problem started? What size main jet do you have in there? what other upgrades have you done?
