I've heard of it keeping the brake light on but never damaging the clutch. Doesn't mean it never happened though I guess I would think you would notice your clutch slipping

It takes more pressure to squeeze the clutch lever thanfringes will apply. If fringes were to be a problem it would be with the brake; I don't know of anyone having that problem either.

On my way to work one morning a guy entered the road just ahead of me and we rode together for about 10 miles with 3 or 4 traffic light stops. When he stopped the fringes had would touch the ground.

I would also be supprised to find lenght of Fringe could cause a clutch wear problem.
But I have seen the combination of oversize grips and wrapped levers decrease the lenght of travel of the lever such that the clutch could not be adusted properly.

I've had the lever fringes for a few seasons now and averaged just over 4k miles each. Two seasons ago, I didn't have to adjust the clutch once. Last season (after the oil was changed), I had to attend to it on a regular basis - ie: weekly. I don't abuse, race or do burnouts with it. So, I blamed the oil. this season I have a new clutch and KNOW what oil I'm running.

I personally wore out a clutch early in R* due to the fringe on the clutch handle. I noticed that my clutch was slipping when I got on it hard. But I didn't put 2 and 2 together till one when running down the road at 70mph I noticed how much pull was on the clutch handle. I removed the fringe and took her for a ride again at the same speed and nothing. So I replaced my clutch and have not had a problem in the past 25,000 miles.

Just curious, do you have the tassles hanging from your clutch and brake levers?
No, the bike didn't have 'em when I got it. That's not to say it didn't have earlier...maybe he transferred them to his new Harley.

As the operator of a bike repair shop I can attest to the fact that mal-adjustment, miss-use, abuse, and friction modified oil can all cause clutch problems.
Thanks, all. Was just a little curious as to how soon a Roadie's clutch could be worn out through various forms of abuse.
