Sorry about bumping a old thread but I have a question. I did a search but did not find.

2006 RSMS 1700 gas tank capacity

I understand the gas tank holds 5.3 gallons. I am curious, I run about 122 miles before the tank needle goes to slightly above empty and the idiot light comes on. What capacity is the reserve? I am fixing to go on a 2000 mile (Mar 26-30) round trip and in some areas, I may not be able to get gas for 120 to 140 miles.

Thanks,
Sky

I believe the reserve is .9 gal. Alot of roadstars are having fuel gauge problems, mine quit after 5k miles. But I go 175 miles before I worry about finding gas. Best thing to do is fill it and run it out, kick on reserve and go refill...that'll tell ya...I'm getting 42-43 mpg

Back from Daytona this past weekend! It was great...!
Misses and me went up US-1 and A1A from Fort Pierce inlet (FLA) to Daytona (140 mi.) Avg. MPG was dead on 40...
Heading back I decided that the Baby needed to "stretch her legs" a little, so from Titusville to Vero Beach (about 75 miles) we used I-95... (First time since Baby was new...) We averaged a little over 32 MPG, and I physically watched the gas gauge move from 3/5 to E in 50 minutes (Keeping up with traffic and leaving a few SUVs in the rear view...)
Stopped at route 60 and filled up with 4.3 gal... (after 135 miles)

I figured the float was nearly wide open and was just pouring fuel into the carb at 2/3 throttle...
BTW: With full leathers and luggage, Baby was pulling an extra 500 lbs with a pretty stiff head wind...

I gotta say... Baby did great and could have done that all day... We meare mortals on the other hand, after 75 miles and an hour of "sunday drivers" felt like used dog toys!

BTW: This is what happens to a Roadstar if you leave it at the Broward Yamaha Dealer too long...

Well I get 31 around town and maybe 45 on the highway. With the new pipes I'm not sure what I get yet. If you want good gas milage you should have left everthing stock I got 50 - 55 highway stock. The more mods you do the more HP and Torque you get and the price for those items IS: Poor gas milage.

Sky,

My '05 Silverado is completely stock. I usually get around 42mpg, mix of highway and twisty. When I'm hoofin' along at 70-75 on I-95, I get a 35-38. My idiot light comes on pretty consistenly at 156.1 miles. For what it's worth, I got almost to my sister's in Jacksonville, FL on I-95 last year, no good place to stop and no desire to. Idiot light came on, and I went another 21.2 miles before reserve. Only rode on reserve for about 3 miles to a gas station, so I don't know where the smiling stops and the pushing begins, but that's my experience so far. LOL
