Nice to hear that about your 99....i was trying to figure out how to describe the sound my bike was makin and "sewing machine" is appropriate. Wasnt sure if my 99 was supposed to sound like a sewing machine or not but it does...and it runs smooth....

Yea, but I am going to drill my pipes to stage one here shortly and get some sound.

By the way, that is a goood looking bike Podar!

Re:newbie with questions 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hey there guys my name is Harry. I enjoy checking out the site and like others find there is a wealth of knowledge here,,, and some great people! The other day I changed my oil. The dealer didn't have 20w40 so I bought 24w50 and a new filter. I went over to Daytona and coming back I noticed what I thought was more noise than usual, actually it sounded like a thrashing machine. I have about 21,000 miles on it so with the tech here on adjusting valves I checked the adjustment yesterday for the firest time. Things looked good, the adjustment seemed good but I checked the adjustment while I was in there, that too seemed to check out. I called a mechanic that I have gotten to know and he said that they, (the yamaha dealership) have received a bulliten that the wear on the lifters have a problem. He said that he has personally changed lifers twice in 40,000 miles on a customers bike. Has anybody heard about this? Changing the oil from 20w40 to 20w50 could have something to do with it, but I think I'm going to amsoil synthetic. But if there is a problem with wear the oil isn't going to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

I have not had luck with a 20W50 oil .... also found it ran a lot noisier.

As for lifters ..... I replaced mine at around 1 k but no it's usually not something that goes wrong.

Doc, I appreciate your response. I know that you know these R*s very well. I'm going to start using a synthetic. Thanks again!

Since about 10,000 miles my bike has been run on 20W50 AMSOIL. It now has over 35,000 miles, and run like a charm.
