16 tooth front sprocket for RoadStar? 9 Months ago
|
|
|
After almost a 2 year hiatus on modifying my Roadstar I'm determined to finish it before this June. Currently I have widened my swingarm for a 250 with a HawgHalters 51 tooth sprocket brake. Could someone tell me what tooth drive sprocket I should use and where I may get one other than having one custom made
Thx
PS My first posting and I already got it wrong

Ask over at Looneys on Delphi Forums. I saw a some sprocket setups over there at one time.

The standard front sprocket is 33 teeth, the standard rear is (I think) 72; therefore, the ratio is 33/72. the same ratio with 51 at the rear would be 23.375 teeth on the front. So you need to pick either 23 or 24. As far as I know the only alterate front sprockets available are 32 & 31. That means that you are looking at custom made; and you will also need a special shorter belt!

thx for the reply. I've changed it to a chain drive to minimize the mods to the swingarm. Yeah, I too did the math and came up with 24 teeth but the standard dia. according to machineries handbook was far to big for those teeth so I'm thinking a 16 tooth gets closer to the ratio but not sure

i seem to remember that the sprocket from an R1 will fit the output shaft splines.
see if you can find a worn out one (free) and check it out.

Thx for the suggestions. I already have the spline profile programmed and cut by wire EDM because I need a specific offset for the tire but the gearing ratio is what i'm leary about. My idea is to cut a ring sprocket and bolt it directly to the hub so that I could experiment with ratios without having to have a new hub wired each time. A 530 chain and sprocket is not readily available from industrial suppliers because it is motorcycle related so looks like i will cnc my own.
