maybe I should try fuel injection 2 Years, 6 Months ago

I'm curious. Has anyone attempted to put the fuel injection from a Warrior onto their Road *? I'm getting sick and tired of the carb problems I keep having and I'm running out of shops to take it to. I thought I had it dialed in, but I was wrong. I'm thinking it's time to switch to fuel injection.

Have you listed the issues here othe RSR site so maybe someone can give you a hand? It seems like almost a pattern that shops can't fix it and then the people here and / or the RSR site can point you right at the problem. Fuel injection is OK until it doesn't work at 2:00 AM in the middle of Big foot valley. At least with a carb you can tinker and maybe get it running good enough to get home.

Better to trade in on a new Liner rather than try to put the fuel injection from a Warrior.
Once people start on the engine mods, one of the most problematic areas of the R* is the carb. However, once dialed in it's fairly reliable.
As Musky suggested, post your problems and info here or on the R* Riders Forum. I'm sure someone can get you up and running.

Ok gentlemen.........Here's the problem.
On Sunday, everything was running well.
On Tuesday, it felt like it would hesitate slightly on takeoff.
On Wednesday morning, it would bog down some between 1500 and 2000 RPM, and be fine above that. By the evening, I had to have the choke halfway out for about 5 miles and then it ran ok.
This morning, I had to keep the choke halfway out the whole way to work to keep it from dying.

First thing I'd check for is an air leak, either between the manifold and the heads or between the carb and manifold. What kind of air intake and exhaust system are you using?

I have the speedstar air kit from Yamaha with the K&N open air filter mounted to the stock backplate. For exhaust, I have Samson rolling thunder slip-on mufflers on the stock head pipes. The guy I had working on my jetting did port the intake. I removed the AIS myself.

Post edited by: BlkCherryBomb, at: 2006/07/06 12:25

Check vacuum cap on carb to make sure it's not cracked.
Certainly sounds like it's starving for gas and getting progressively worse.
If it started after filling the tank, then drain the tank and the fuel bowl and put in fresh gas.
Water in fuel bowl .... drain fuel bowl.
Dirty filters .... Replace fuel filter and clean out the small filter in the carb gas inlet.
Dirt in carb .... take carb apart and clean all orifices and jets. (Sounds like the main jet is OK)

So it doesn't sound like any of the jets are the wrong size or anything like that? Something is restricting the fuel flow? It would be nice if it was something simple like a dirty fuel filter. However, with as much as this thing has been tinkered with in the last 2 weeks, I'm real nervous.

If "everything was running well" and then it started to run progressively worse, then the jetting is not wrong. Something has happened to cause it to run worse.
Look for the obvious, easy to fix things and then move to the more complex stuff.

I think a jet problem would be a more consistant issue. If yours got steadily worse that quick it sounds like something is blocking your gas or bad gas. Do you run with the petcock on Reserve at all?
