Trouble with the chrome tips on the HK's 9 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Well I moved the R* to get it ready to come out of hybernation. Amd noticed that the tips on the HK 3" Big Straights was flaking on the chrome. Anybody hear anyting like this happening? I thought I read once somewhere that HK had a problem with some of there tips. And if you paid the postage you could send yours in and get a new set. But I can't find that information either. Still haven't got a callback from them either. Any ideas Guys?

Mine flaked I sanded them and painted them with the high heat black paint, it gives them that rinehart/bub look!!

Does look neat tapeit59. But I don't want to go that route yet. Heck these are not even 1 year old yet!

dseward, yep, I've had the same thing happen to mine. I hadn't heard about HK replacing them. If you or someone here finds out about replacing them I'd like to know.

Sorry to report a Google of "Hard Krome Flaking" brings up a lot of similar issues.........and no help at all from the company. Most report not even hearing back from them.....and I could find none that got their's replaced. There's always the recourse of sending a report to the BBB (or threating HK with one). Sometimes, a little outside influence can get "your" wheels greased even if everyone else gets burned.

Give 'em Hell! Best of Luck, dseward.

I had Hard Krome pipes on my 2000 V-Star that I had before my R*. I had 2 sets peel and they replaced both sets. Now this was in 2004 and if I remember right that's when they first had this problem to surface. I have DG's on my R* and have had no problems.

A local chrome shop could probably redo them for a fair price, if DG gives you no help. BB

Well a quick udate! Got a hold of someone at DG in California. Explained the situation. His reply was simple. " Can you send them back?" My reply was "Yes but what's the deal?". DG Stated they had problems with some of the chrome coming off the tips. If I paid for the return shipment of my tips. They would ship out a new set the day mine showed up there. So for the new tips it wil cost about $8.00. They said they would next day me the new ones. Well at least this was found before the riding season starts. Now it's a matter of wait and see if they are good to their word.

Well. DG Hard Krome made good on the deal. New tips arrived today. Look good and only cost $6 to ship out to California. So one horay for DG!
