newbie here- air pressure question 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Hi guys, I have an 01 roadie with the stock tires. I weigh around 170, ride mostly highway. Wife is around 130. I run 35psi in the back. Just replaced rear tire and the guy at the shop said I have more wear in the center, with plenty of tread on the sides. He said start at 35 psi. Classic example of overinflation. But at 35psi? Manual recommends 36 up to whatever, I forget, and 40 psi up to, again whatever load capacity. I bought a good digital tire gauge, and compared it to the one I was using, and they both read identical. SO, anybody experience this type of tire wear at the recommended psi? Maybe I should try running at maybe 32psi. Any suggestions? Again, hello to everyone!

If your riding highways you will always get more wear in the middle of the tire.
You very seldom hit the twisties on highways therefore you don't ride the edge. Most tires wear in the middle before the sides. At least mine do but who cares I still got 13,000 on rear and 22,500 on front. True it did not handle towards the end like a oval tire it was flat in middle but not bad handling

Welcome vetteman

If you are riding highways the center will wear out first. I'd run more than 35 riding 2 up. Closer to 40. How many miles on the tire?

Vetterman~ I'll have to go with Musky and Cruiser. I've replaced two rears on my '99 Roadie and both wore dead down the middle. Mostly highway miles and I have to run @ 40 psi with 400+ lbs on the bike with mama and I.

Most cycle tires with a round profile will wear in the center. Check the contact patch by running the tire through a puddle of water and the look at the pattern made from the tire.........Gary
