Tire Size (again) 9 Months, 1 Week ago
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything on it.

What advantage (if any) is there to running a 160 rear as opposed to a 150? I've got a 1600 with laced wheels, and I'm also wondering, does anybody run radial tires? What is the advantage?

Just got back from a 320 mile ride, and noticed my tires (currently Venoms, with a 160 on the rear) are in need of replacement. BRRRR!! It was about 28F when we left, and we hit a little rain and more snow (not sticking to the road) and did I say it was cold? Nothing like heated gear We had a BLAST! The guys without heated gear almost froze, but they said they had a good time too.

I'm going with the Metz ME880's, after reading that alot of you guys really like them. I just don't know whether to go back to the stock 150, or stay with the 160. I'm thinking the skinnier the tire, the better the traction, because there are more pounds of weight per square inch on the ground.

Not to steal your thread, but I have always wondered what the widest rear tire is that would fit onto a stock 05 roadstar wheel?

First - If you want whitewalls you can't get a 160 whitewall Metz. I'm pretty sure cast rims are 3 inches wide and spokes are 3.5 so your tire will be about an inch wider on your spokes than on cast. So a 150 might look fine and you can get them in Whitewall. 160s aren't much wider than 150's on stock rims.

160 is the widest and I don't think there is much differance betwee the 150 and the 160 to amount to anything.

The wheel is only 3 1/2". A 180 will fit, but will actually be taller than if it were on, say, a 4 or 4 1/2" wheel. You won't gain anything on the stock rim if you go any wider than a 160.

I'm with you, Curt. I think I'm ordering the 150's. Glad to see you got your problems solved!

Musky, I'm running blackwalls, but I still think the 150's will give me better traction, and I might even see a little better fuel mileage. Besides, that's what it came with.
