Where do I route the PCV pipe, Carb vent pipe. 9 Months ago
Hi Guys.
I bought a 2003 R* with what I think is called a "Hyper Charger" breather attached. It is the one that looks like a Ram air breather and it has a moving intake flap.
The intake flapper is connected to the 1/8" pipe off the intake manifold, but the PVC pipe off the rear cylinder head has a small K&N filter attached to it (which has an oil mess)and it is just laying between the cylinders on top. The carburetor vent tube just has a little screen filter attached to it and vents to the outside. My local bike mechanic (without seeing the set up)told me that it is important to connect those hoses to something. Because I don't have the original breather installed can anyone give me an idea as to where I should connect the PVC and carbureter vent hoses?

Are you talking about the short hose coming off the top left of the carb that has sort of a PCV looking deal on it? If you are that's exactly how it is supposed to be. Nothing hooks up to it. That's the way the come from the factory. If you're talking about the skinny hose coming out the left side of the carb you can take that hose off and just leave the short brass tube uncovered. The crankcase vent hose doesn't have to be hooked up to anything either. You can get a longer piece of hose and route it out the bottom of the bike. You can use a filter on the end or not. If you are getting a lot of oil out of it you might be overfull on oil.

Musky...
Thank you for that! Yes you are right. The big tube on the carb has what looks like a PVC valve on it. The little hose on the the brass pipe at the bottom of the carb is missing. I will take your advise for the PCV hose and run it out the bottom of the bike.
Thanks for your reply.
Just as an off topic, I have read here about running without a pump and the missing at top end. I have the same symptom and have ordered the Suzuki float bowl valve from the other thread. I am waiting for it to come and I'll put it in and see how the idea works.

I turned mine up to take a picture of it... I think for weatherproofing, it should be pointed downward...

StarCruiser06!
I will remember that when I put the carb back on. I'm waiting for my new 2.5 float valve to come in.

Are you talking about the fuel bowl drain pipe? Nothings on it.
