Re:What's an average MPG??? 9 Months ago
Did the chock knob thing recommended by Musky, changed pipes to freedom duels, new K&N am now getting 38. The only time I got 44-48mpg was when the bike was new with nothing changed. So I'm wondering what change did I make that caused my mileage to change???? To my knowledge and according to Musky my carb has the stock jetting, so why can't I get 42-44 mpg???????????????????????

I'm only getting about 36. I'd love to be in the 40's, but not sure what to do to make the petrol go further...outside of loose like 100 lbs.

Stock bike motor-wise save for the duals.

some of it when depend on if your area is still running "winter" gas or if you have an ethynol blend.

I just got 41 mpg out of my last tank. That's with no windshield, or bags....It is summer after all. On roadtrips , loaded down, I have routinely gotten 48-50 mpg on the interstate (with W/S and bags, etc...). And I'm a load by myself, so........

I must seriously must be doing something wrong! LOL

I can make you guys feel even BETTER though. My 2006 Jeep Wrangler (bought new so I still have a massive payment) only gets 14mpg on the highway. And to make matters worse I work 45mi from home, so I'm looking at 90+ miles a day. It's nice on the days I ride to work though.

That is about what I get with pipes jet kit and K&N wind shield light bar, bags. However it is windy here quite often and milage will drop to about 36.

Finally after geting the jetting right with the Mr. C's breather and the lowboys...I'm back at 42-44 with everything on it. I was getting 30-32 That was running secondary highways and city combined. I'm pretty sure if I was to run the interstate on a long cruise, I'd get 50 out of her.

I quit worrying about the MPG's and just ride. I average around 35 to 40 mpg's and ride in elevations from 6,500 to 9,000 feet here in Northern New Mexico. The greatest thing about my RS is that it does not leave me on the side of the road like some other brands.

Re:What's an average MPG??? 9 Months ago
I have been keeping a record of may mileage for the past couple of months while messing with the jetting. I ported the manifold myself (instructions in the tech articles) have changed the main jet (finally settled on 165 mikuni)clip on needle at 3 with 2 washers, pilot jet #37.5 2 1/2 turns out. I have averaged from 38 to 44 mpg. Right now (last check yesterday) 40 mpg. Before I started all the work, I averaged 31-36. I see an improvement, but wow some of you guys make me feel bad. I have a 2004 midnight star 1700, I guess if I compare with a 1600 that may make a difference?
