Sundance.....you have tried the 35 pilot and it didn't work well for you? I had the 37.5 in many moons ago, but found it too rich, and I gained a few mpgs back with the 35. I'm not saying rejet.....just asking a question. BTW mines a 1700 as well, I believe riding style is just as much a factor in MPGs as anything. BB

sundance...mines a 1700 also...riding style has to be 50% of it. I can get better milage with my wife on back! Just because I take it easier... I dont like being slapped in the back of the head.

Re:What's an average MPG??? 9 Months ago
I had the original 35 pilot in when I made changes, but I had to set the pms out 4 1/2 turns out for it to run right. I almost lost it. I'm using the barrons thumb screw. I went to a #40 and mileage went way down, then to the #37.5 at the present. Didn't mention before but I have Mr. Cancills K&N filter on as well. I have tried to be a little lighter on the throttle, I tend to wind it out at times, but it don't seem to make a lot of difference. I guess changing the needle back to the 3rd slot with one washer will help. That is where I got the best mileage. Changing jets on the bike has helped with the time issue.

If you were out 4 1/2 out, might wanna try next step up main jet with the 35..bet that would work for ya. Its what I had to do and everything came together perfect. I went to the Mr. C breather, needle back to the 3rd, put the 35 back in, 170 mik, pms 3 out....I hit the mark! Hard to believe but I got 10 m.p.g. difference right off the bat.

My stock '06 has been pretty consistant at 40-ish...
Right after switching to synthetic oil and topping of the last 2/10ths with Lucas synth oil additive... and I threw in a 1 oz to 1 gal shot of Seafoam... and my mileage jumped to near fifty mpg...
(Of course, that was on a 200 mile run with a friend of mine, who rides like a granny...)

On a run back from Daytona on I-95 milage dropped to less than 30 mpg!
(That was 2 up, full luggage and keeping up with traffic for more than 100 miles at 85 mph.)

I'll try it again and see how it works, changing the jets on the bike makes it easier to make changes used to be at least an hour, now down to about 20 minutes for me.

Re:What's an average MPG??? 9 Months ago
You never know sundance..I've been tinkering for a year tryin' to get it right. Since I put the Mr. C breather on, with the Cobra's...it all fell together the first time. I was running the 37.5 also so going back to the 35 I think was a main part of it. Then the 170 mik. and droppin' the needle down to the 3rd with one washer topped it off. The tank of gas before the operation gave me 33.3 After, 44.5 ! I like those numbers.

kinda...sorry.
