Battery 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to start and run a 2001 Road* by coasting down a hill or pushing, if the battery is dead or low enough not to start normally? It seems to me that I use to be able to do this with a Harley I owned back in the early 60's. I was thinking about talking a road trip and thought this would be good to know if I get out in some far off place. Thanks for any help.

If your concerned that the battery might not be 100% I would suggest you get a new one before you start your trip.

Good advise, if your unsure replace it. But if you're just curious as I often get, you can push start it, or roll it down a hill. Never had to but I have just to see if I could.

If you battery is REALLY low on juice, or totally dead, you can roll it down a hill all you want and it will not start. The Digital TCI ignition will not fire without adequate voltage.
And if your'e one of those new 2008 guys with EFI, it would require even more poewr for the computer and fuel nozzles to work...
I agree with Musky, if your battery is questionable, replace it with a quality new one.

Man... get a new battery! I used to have problems with my 700 Shadow and had to push it a couple of times - with the help of friends. I can't imagine pushing a Roadie... You better have Bubba and uncle Gumpie handy.., and call the neighbor over too... a roadie is pretty heavy to be pushing very far - even down hill!
