Building a kit tank? 4 Years, 1 Month ago
Okay so I've asked a lot of questions about lots of things, and I'm constantly surprised by the knowledge you all have. I've asked about auxiliary fuel tanks and rake/stretch, and other things I can't think of right now. I found the custom tank I wanted, a 25in long teardrop tank, but before I was having to sacrifice a lot of fuel capacity. The one I found this time is the shape and dimensions I want but it costs over $800. Not too bad and I'll save if I have to, it's what I really need to set off this project, and it's a 5 gallon tank! Best of both worlds imo.

The company offers different variations of the teardrop style tank. But I'm interested in the 16" wide tanks. The tank ready made is $827.95 and the kit tank, with the same dimensions is $212. I was thinking about getting the kit tank and building it to fit the frame during the 6in stretch in the backbone. Do you think this would be the best route to take or just but the ready made tank and make it fit? Is there anything I should be concerned about when building the kit tank? The guy that's doing the frame work would be the same person building the tank also. He said he wouldn't make a tank from scratch but he could modify one, or put the parts together.

Either way, I think this is the tank I'm going to end up buying. It's the style I wanted, and the fuel capacity is what I was hoping for. Also, if you know of tanks just like this but for less $$$ post the link. Thanks guys, I find the information you share to be indispensable.

Here is the link to the page with the tank on it.

(...Hey, maybe you should get some kids or something..... )
Good luck on your project RIP! A good welder-buddy can make anything out of metal!
Make sure you post some pics of your bike when she's all done up!

My bike is a boy... And yes, I plan to post MANY pics along the way. The only thing is right now all the things I'm doing need to be done all at the same time, so it's gonna be an overnight change.

Nothing worth doing is easy. That includes building a chopper. Even if it DOES start as a factory bike. I have countless hours in it already.

Check this out, its an old pic I thought I'd lost over a year ago when my comp crashed: It's a before and after so to speak.

Let me see if I can get a dealership from them. If I can I can get it for you cheaper. If you get the kit I hope that your friend is an artist with a TIG torch! I would not recomend either gas or MIG welding.

I'm gonna talk to him tomorrow and I'll see what he says before I buy anything. I'll let you work your magic also. PM me if you get the deal with them. I'm looking at getting the tank on the 1st, either the tank or the kit that is. Depends on how we decide to work this out.
