Oil change questions 5 Years, 9 Months ago
Getting ready to change the oil for the first time myself on my R*. (been having shop do it, boy do they leave a mess.)
I have read the tech tips, and the manual. Not a difficult task.

The Tech Tips both indicate to drain the crankcase first, then the oil tank.
The (user) manual says to draing the tank first??
Does it make a difference, and which way perfered?

Aslo one of the Tech Tips states the ST7317 filter is an acceptable replacement, thoughts?

also unrelated can someone point me as to how to put the emotional icons in the messages? I don't mess with this kind of stuff much, usally just spreadsheeds and e-mails all day (what a bore).

Here's alist of filters. I hear alot about avoiding Fram. I changed mine according to the manual. Got over 4 qts out so must have worked.

Amsoil ……………………… (SMF103) chrome (SMF103C)
Bosch ……………………… (3300) (3330) (3323)
Mobil One…………………… M108
BOSCH……………………….3300 3323
K&N…………………………….KN-303
NAPA GOLD……………...1358
PUROLATOR……………….ML16817
STP…………………………...SDF13
WIX…………………………..51358
FRAM………………………...6017A
HASTINGS…………………LF-113
HI FLO………………………HF-303
EMGO……………………….10-82220
PER-FORM…………………J-503
Super Tech………………..ST7317 (Wal-Mart)
The Wal-Mart ST 6607 is a little smaller than the stock filter and the 7317
is maybe a half inch longer. Both will work fine, your preference

The smiley doo dads - Put the curasor (blinky line thingy) where you want it to be then go over to the list and click on the smiley you want. It will pop into your message where you wanted.

Doesn't matter what you drain first.
