It might be that at idle the flow of air through the aircleaner causes negative pressure in the hose, This would reduce the flow of fuel through the pilot jet.

This morning I looked at the hose fittings on the rear of the hyper and they are wrong according to the Kury instructions. Both lines from the hyper were going to the intake manifold.

I changed them. One hose on the rear(forward)of the hyper goes to the AIS line on intake manifold. This is where I have the T fitting installed. The AIS is hooked back up to the intake nipple.

The other line on the hyper (rear) goes to the carb float bowl vent hose (brass hose on float bowl).

I'm late for work so can't start it up but will do so when I get home.

At idle are the butterflies closed or open?

yes, when the engine is off, the butterflies are completly open, at idle the butterflies should be almost closed and fluttering a bit due to the variation in vaccum at idle..when you crack the throttle, vaccum drops and the butterfly will open..

It starts and runs great, butterflies working properly. I had to turn the idle down. Still have the odd backfire but removing the AIS will help. If I blip the throttle there is a slight hesitation. I think I'll have to adjust the accelerator pump screw. I'm very pleased with the results and THANKS for all the advise, it's appreciated.
