Okay BlkCherryBomb, third at 40mph, fourth at 50mph, and fifth gear at 50mph. I usually shift to fifth at about 55mph myself but I want to convince an old guy (my 77 yo dad) in Florida that he needs to keep his rpms up a little higher when riding his 05 Silverado. Oh ya, and at what speed should I expect the rev limiter to kick in when winding out in first gear? Thanks everyone. Isn't this the best site on the internet?

Thanks for the info.

That will depend on a number of things, not the least of the front pulley. The pre 04 has a 33 tooth pulley and the 04 and up have a 32.

Some have even gone to a 31, which puts you at the limiter very quickly.

My 04 is stock with the exception of AIS removed and pipes drilled to stage one.

Ok ekonkjack.......

The 4th gear at 50 mph I can tell you now. That's 2000 rpm. I noticed that one on the way to work this morning. I wrote down the others and I'll get you answers this afternoon. As for the rev limiter, I've never taken mine to the limiter, but based on how fast I have gone, I would say you'd probably hit it between 40 and 45 mph.

Ok.......3rd gear at 40 mph puts you at 2000 rpm, and 5th gear at 50 is about 1650 rpm. Personally, I don't shift into 5th until 65-70 mph. That is shifting at about 2700 rpm. Hope that helps you out.

Thanks BlkCherryBomb. I think these motors sound very happy running in the 2k to 2.5k range.

Here's some info that may be helpful. For a 2004 bike with 32 tooth pulley the following formulas should help you convert from mph to rpm and back:

RPM = (gear ratio x mph) / .0206

MPH = (.0206 x RPM) / gear ratio

Gear ratios are as follows: 1st = 2.375; 2nd = 1.579; 3rd = 1.16; 4th = .906; 5th = .75

An example: 80 mph in 5th gear = (.75 x 80) / .0206 = 2913 rpm

Another example: 3000 rpm in 4th gear = (.0206 x 3000) / .906 = 68.2 mph

Additional info: Factor is based on standard rear tire size (150 x 80 - 16) which has a circumference of 6.659 feet. Primary transfer ratio is 1.532 and secondary transfer ratio is 2.393. Factor calculated as follows:

.0206 = ( 1/ (1.532 x 2.393)) x 6.659 ft/rotation x 60 min/hr x (1 mile / 5280 feet)

(If you're running a 31 tooth drive pulley, your secondary transfer ratio would be 2.47 and factor would be .0200.)

Hope this helps and hope my math is ok!

Post edited by: pday, at: 2006/08/25 11:24

Thanks pday. I like math too. I have yet to hit the rev limit but feel that it is okay to rev these babies up now and then, in fact it probably does them good.

Hey I have answers to the rev limiter this is on a 06 Silverado. Do 45 in 1st and it will hit. 60-65 in second gear. 85 in 3rd gear and 100 in 4th gear. No I have not hit it in 5th gear yet. Only have gone 110 so far and bike starts to vibrate on the cheap stock slipstones. Now I must say when you hit the rev limiter it literly sounds like the bike is gonna explode. (backfiring,skipping,popping and missing) I like to hit it in first and second about once a week to blow out the carbon and keep her clean and mean. Take Care and God Bless, Mike
