Question? 7 Months, 4 Weeks ago
|
|
If I`m trying to make sure my carb is sealing between the carb
and manifold.Do you think a slight lubing of the carb to manifold
with vasoline would be OK,or to clean dry and then mate the two?

I would say mate it up dry. Is it the OEM or aftermarket?

FYI...If memory serves me, you should never use vaseline on rubber type products as it has a tendency to break it down and I don't know how hot the manifold gets, but vaseline has a melting point of just over 100.

I'm from a different school of thought I guess. I have used (for years BTW) a very light coat of automotive bearing grease (Valvoline synthetic , to be precise) in these areas , and it works wonders. Go's in easy, works like a seal , and to be honest , if it ain't harming the seals that it is up against in your typical rotor set up for a car.....I can't imagine it would damage the rubber intake either. Just a thought. BB

Take the brass spacer out of the clamp and grind a little off the end. That will help make sure the clamp is tightening down on the carb and not the spacer. I put mine in dry because I think it will hold better. If it goes in real easy it can come out real easy too. Dry you have the clamp and friction holding it in tight. My op anywho.

I guess I screwed up then, I put vasaline on both the intake manifold/ carb junction and on the diaphram on the top of the carb to hold it in the grove when I reassembled it. Now what?? guess I need to clean it off ?

I use wheel bearing grease on the diaphram and the manifold O rings to hold them in place during assembly.
