Do you mean the plastic ones on the hoses? Sometime you need you insert a little screwdriver and stretch the hose a bit so the barb on the fitting will let the hose go.
Maybe someone else will know what to do if it is the ones in the heads.

Do a search for AIS removal or some such. You'll get some ideas.

Maybe send a message to Doc Shadow, he has lots of knowledge on the 1600s. ...Or is youra a 1700?
I've never bothered to try and remove my tubes from the heads yet, just plugged the rubber hose and hooked 'em together so it looks like it came that way. Hope you get her figured soon.

Sorry,I don't know much about the 1600 AIS, (and haven't even looked at how my 1700 AIS tubes connect on the heads for that fact )
I'm thinking Doc Shadow can help you, he has a 1600. And he's REAL smart!

Searching on the posts is a good idea, because folks who have done it on the 1600 have chimed in before on this. I believe one way was to use a modified dent puller, another involved a dowel rod, and yet another was the good old vice grips benda and pull. I think one guy even just cut his tubes off flush to the hearand went from there.
I also have a 1700, so sorry I can't contribute much.
