Installing new grips . . . 4 Years ago
The instructions with the new grips I'm about to install (kury ISO's) call for loosening the throttle cables. According to the manual that means pulling off the seat and gas tank to access the cable connections. Sound right? Can it be done without taking off the tank? Inquiring minds and all that. Thanks.

When I installed my iso grips I didn't remove the tank or even mess with the throttle cables, it was actually pretty easy.

I would not start out that way. If the trottle cables are a pain to engage (like mine were), then you can remove the air filter to access them. My throttle cables were so close to slipping in the new grip that I had a friend gently and carefully lift up on the carb and that provided enough slack for them to slip in w/o making any adjustments to the throttle cables.

Another technique that I learned after my struggles was to turn your steering to the right in lieu of the normal position which is to the left. Turning your steering to the right will give you the maximum amount of free play, but make sure you are sitting on the bike to avoid the possibility of tipping.

Also, there is a lot of information on this site and others concerning the poor quality glue that comes with the ISO grips for securing the left side grip. Some have used hairspray, two-sided tape, Gorillia glue, etc, in lieu of the glue that came with the grip.

Hope this helps!

I just installed the same grips....I just loosened them by the throttle asm. and split the throttle asm. used a small hook tool to grab the throttle cable...pretty hard to explain...but easy to do! It took about 20 minutes to install both grips.

installed them on bushr's bike

You loosen the cables at the housing.......now I think with the handle bar turned to the right you can get housing and the throttle off the bar...remove the cables set cables in new throttle and set throttle in casings.. then slid everything back on the bar until the nib on one half of the casing fit into a holle in the bar and screwed the casing halfs back together

something I cursed at til I found the plastic spacer for the left side was inside the throttle and it wouldnt slide on the bar all the way dug it out....man for a while
