The sandwich adapter I pick up on ebay also, but after going to the purolater site and matching which make of car used the PL14610 filter. Harley's will do the same with no problems. This happened to me 10,000 miles ago and no issues with the engine. I can't push this Roadie uphill! Is there some kind of thermostatic switch in the Roadie engine that even Yamaha has not mentioned in the Owner's Manual?
