key on/no power/no start 7 Months, 1 Week ago
this is my first post, i've had my 01' midnight star with no problems until yesterday, couldn't believe it, well here's my problem, i went to start her yesterday, the usual cycle, gas on, kick stand up, in "n", turn the key on, the speed-o cycles and then i hit the starter, she try's to turn over for one second and then completely dead,i check the fuse panel all fuses are good, checked the starter no problem, it was late so i'm going to check main fuse this morning, has anyone ever had this happen?

BEING A 01 MY IDEA, AND THIS IS NOT KNOWING MILES, USE, AND ENVIRONMENT THAT THE STARTER MAY BE WEAK. THERE ARE TWO FUSES NEXT TO THE STARTER SOLONOID COVERED WITH CAPS. CHECK THOSE NEXT.

make sure your battery connections.....are good.... ground etc...

the same thing happened to me at the gas station a few weeks back....power enough to run the lights etc..soon as I hit the starter button everything went dead....just snugged up the bolts and away we went....

tighten up the bolts and make sure they haven't loosened up.... then the starter solenoid may be suspect

A few months ago I put a new battery in my 03 R* Silverado, original went 4+ years. A couple of weeks after installing the new battery it started normally, went a couple of blocks and quit. STONE COLD DEAD - NOTHING. Pushing it back home was fun! Got out the multimeter and found that there was no power when the meter probe was on the negative wire terminal which connects to the battery; however, there was power when the probe was on the negative battery post. Removed bolt holding wire to battery; with pocket knife scraped battery post and both sides of wire terminall; reinstalled bolt. SHES OFF & RUNNING!

Lousey connections cause a lot of electrical grief!

exact same thing...I was confused..expected solenoid chatter with a weak battery... then thought maybe starter was locked up.. so I put her in gear and rocked her...but then this is not a bendix ring gear setup...its a sprag starter clutch .... just about to push it to try and start it by popping the clutch to get home.....then I just decided to pop the seat grabbed a wrench and tightened up the battery bolts...voila...

was I happy it wasnt anything serious..

may not be Big Joe's problem but it is good to know what to expect if she does it again...cause its embarassing....

Mine is an '01 Midnight Star also and not knowing the age of the battery, I just replaced it to avoid such problems. Never having a new vehicle in my 53 years of age, I always immediately R&R the battery, brakes, LOF and tires just to get off on the right foot. But, the connections are a good place to start to solve this puzzle. Good luck.

Yep! I'd go with the battery connections first also...
The connections are crucial to the starting of our Stars... I've had a loose connection 1100 miles after electrical work was done... and it feels like the battery is dead... Here's some symptoms;
Engine turns over and you hear a slight snap (arcing sound)
Engine turns over slow.
Lights are effected by other drains...(lights dim when brake is applied...)
Sporatic engagement of the solinoid during start-up.
Engine dies for no apparent reason.

The application of electrolytic grease helps too...
