08 1700 RoadStar with FI 7 Months, 1 Week ago
OK guys and gals,
Looking for advice on drilling the exhaust on my new ride, 08 RoadStar 1700. You all are calling stage 1 - 2 - and 3. Well by that standard On my Suzuki c-50 I'm at stage 2. My Question is how does Yamaha's FI re-act if at all. Many C-50 owners claimed no change even with full debaffle. I would not know due to adding cobra processer for K&N air filter.
So back to my Question, Anybody experiance any ill effects with new FI system and exhaust mod?
Thanks,
Don

Greetings copperchopper! This is kind of unexplored territory but if I had to guess I'd say the effect would be minimal. EFI usually compensates for a number of changes from altitude to exhaust. Doing a stage 2 or 3 shouldn't have too much noticeable effect. Going to HK's or an aftermarket set of pipes may be a different story. Just guessing here. Not sure how drilling the pipes would affect your warranty either. M2CTS.

All Right, Well I am loving the bike, Kind of like a kid in the candy store starting over with all the add ons. The bike digs like a mule and I got to hear it a bit more. Got the middle kids Grad. Party this Sat. So either Sun. or next week end I have an appt.with that exhaust, I guess I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks

If you are wondering starcruiser06, Copperchopper comes from years as Plant Manager at a copper recycling plant, No fancy copper chopper here, I just got the 08 RoadStar s. and A Suz. c50, a Yamaha 650 and a 73 Yamaha 250 dirt bike.
Very nice LED lights you got there.

Could someone with an 06 or 07 who has a stock exhaust and knows how to post a picture, post a shot of exhaust tip so I know that 08 is the same, and exhaust mod is the same procedure. Not worried about warranty as much as virgin ground. Seems to be small 1 inch spot weld on exhaust port tube to back plate. is this the weld and plate I need to ditch first???????

I have a Roadhouse slip on on my Roadliner (they have FI), and have no issues whatsoever with the bike. Have not added anything else (fuel management , filter changes). I would Think that doing the stage 1-3 one at a time would be safe , and would give you the opportunity to get the sound you want , with no ill effects. Keep us informed. BB
