Re:Can i get into first gear stationary.. no :) 7 Months, 1 Week ago
Hi Guys,
To answer the question on the why down shift when stationary...
Thats not the problem unless i forget to down shift, which i do ... the issue is from 1st to N to 1st... ie if i put it in N from 1st when at the lights for a while and want to stretch hands etc... its very hard to go back to 1st this wasnt a problem until a few days ago so im guessing clutch ( or at least hoping )
Im guessing right now that clutch isnt fully IN .. hence the issue.

PS check with Yamaha and recall was done.. so thats not it .. bugger i was hoping for a nice new Yamaha clutch

thanks all for the advice .. i was wondering if anyone else has had or seen this issue before?

Begin by adjusting at the lever, the space of a US nickel is about right (2-3 mm). The friction point should be a little before half way out. This insures full engagement and disengagement. I have found with several motorcycles that the clutch out of adjustment will make it make finding neutral difficult and sometimes going into gear more difficult. It only takes a minute to find out.
Does the problem occur all the time or only when you are at full operating temperature? Another wear indicator. How many miles on the scoot?

It's simple , but dirty oil (oil that needs to be changed) can make stop sign shifting a headache. I agree with the others though....get your shifting done before you come to a complete stop when possible. If Adjustments , oil changes or some other easy fix doesn't correct it , at the very least , take it by your Qualified dealership , have someone give it a whirl , and see what they think. Small issues become big issues if not treated. 2 cents , BB

Is your idle speed too high or too low? About 900 rpm is what the manual calls for. Too high an idle speed can cause issues with shifting into first gear when stopped or going slow.
