Gas Tank Vent!! 3 Years, 11 Months ago
My question for all of you is this; I've notice that my gas tank creates a vacuum when the weather starts get a lot of moister in the and the temp falls, but on the days that are sunny and warm I have no problems.. About 4yrs ago I wrecked said bike and have since rebuilt and took it on a trip to the lower 48 from Alaska, When we got into Canada we hit nothing but rain and mud from construction the bike kept dieing, we would stop and cleaned out everything and kept going that was the first time it has ever happened, no problems when we got to warmer climate, was wondering if that tip-over plug (for lack of proper name) might have something to do with it? The bike still does it sometimes. Thanks for the help, Stan Church

You can have a pinched or plugged vent line that is connected to the rollover valve on the tank. Check and make sure the line isn't kinked and blow thru it to make sure it isn't plugged.

Do you still have the rollover valve in the tank vent line?

Check that little 1/8 inch rubber hose that hangs out just in front of the rear wheel, to the left side of the spring/shock area. It may be clogged with all that construction mud. I think this hose vents the fuel system somewhere.
Mine usualy has gas fumes coming out of it when I park the bike on a hot day, so I know it's a vent line that's connected to the fuel system somehow. It also collects a ball of mud when on wet clay roads.

the 1/4 ID green hose hanging under the bike in front of the rear wheel goes to the rollover valve under the left side cover and then a black 1/4 ID hose from the valve on to the tank vent near yer gas cap...these valves have been known to seize closed and the gas tank could implode...I removed my valve...and put in a piece of 1/4 OD nylon tubing in its place ..the clamps are spring wire hose clamps...you could use a 1/4 barb union....then feed the hose back thru the wire stay loop underneath on the frame of the bike

Her is an article on the subject

Rollover Valve/Blocked tank vent hose
