#91873 tamaule (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 88 Tightening the triple tree bolt (nut) 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago   I have notice that I really feel the bumps on the road. I check the forks for slop and sure enough there is some play in the head. So, the manual says to tighten it to 37 lb ft - back it off and then re-tighten it to 2 lb ft. What it doesn't say is whether or not the tire should be on the ground and if so should it be solid on the ground or just touching while still on the jack. When I did the routine maintenance on mine cleaning and repacking the bearings, I followed the advice of those on this forum and tightened to seat the bearings and then loosened enough to allow free movement without slamming from center to lock right or left. The wheel was in light contact with the ground to help hold the position of the forks and wheel while I reassembled. Once I tightened the nut and then loosened it to finger tight I lifted the front end again to allow the wheel to move freely. My front end moves freely from lock to lock and there is no play in the front end.
