Fuel Sender Unit 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
|
My fuel gauge stopped working about 2 months ago and the light either stays solid or blinks (depending on its mood). I ordered a new fuel sender unit. I just got it. Does anyone know how to install it? TIA!

I'm interested in this one as well. I'll be doing this repair at some point since my gauge stopped working due to failed sending unit.

I will be putting a new fuel sender on my 05 this weekend, mine went out last weekend needle would not move and fuel light was blinking 8 times, as far as looking at the manual looks pretty simple, unplug it and remove the two bolts but then again it's those simple looking jobs that have always cost me the most money and headaches.

okiebo, let me know how it goes. I have a tendency of breaking crap all of the time. My dealer said they wanted $120 for labor. I know I have to drain the tank and remove the tank. Can it really be as simple as you say? I'll change the plugs while I got the tank off. Its been too long, though the bike is running well though.

only spot i had trouble was when i stood the tank up on the tank mount (where the long bolt goes through. Place it on it's right side then remove the screws. These sending unit seem very touchy.
on a scale of 1 - 10 it's a 4 for difficulty. good luck

Remove the tank.
Plug the line (vent tube)
Turn it over.
Remove two screw holding sender.
Install new sender the way old one came out.
Put the tank back on.
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FOR 60 SECONDS
This resets the instrument panel.

Hey, what's going on here, mine just started doing the same thing. Yamaha, what gives? If we wanted Mickey Mouse crap going wrong with our bikes all the time we'd buy a Harley!! Look's like I'll have to replace my sender too.
