Schweeng at shutdown 7 Months ago
|
|
My R* makes a sound like a starter gear "schweenggg" when I shut her down. My guess is the crank turns backward a rev and somehow causes the starter gear to engage. Ring any bells?
It used to do it only occasionally, but now, after 8k miles, it seems to happen more frequently.
Is this a common thing? What causes it? Is there a cure? Should I be concerned about it causing any damage/wear?
Sorry for all the questions, but this is bugging me.
2007 R* Midnight Silverado XV1700

Baron BAK
AIS removed
I really appreciate any feedback.
THANKS!!!!!!

I believe the starter on these is always engaged. Its a very normal thing for you to get the "zing" noise when you shut it off. Most everyone here has it too. I know I do. annoying, but nothing to worry about. You will probably get a "whooos" when it happens also. both very normal for a roadstar.

Yep, mine does it as well. There have been several posts here in the clinic which mentions it and why it happens. Nothing to worry about.

OK. Thanks. I did some searching for other threads, but didn't run across any. Can you point me to one. I'm curious to understand why it does this.

this link should give you a basic understanding of it. Just part of the non EFI charm of the roadstar.
When we got to town after a group dinner ride tonight mine did the ususal zing and woof. then one of the guys wanted to hear my exhaust and ofcourse it smelled like gas and didnt want to start for being flooded. I love the bike, but I want EFI again..lol.
