Fresh Boarder Posts: 27 Schweeng at shutdown 7 Months ago   My R* makes a sound like a starter gear "schweenggg" when I shut her down. My guess is the crank turns backward a rev and somehow causes the starter gear to engage. Ring any bells? It used to do it only occasionally, but now, after 8k miles, it seems to happen more frequently. Is this a common thing? What causes it? Is there a cure? Should I be concerned about it causing any damage/wear? Its a very normal thing for you to get the "zing" noise when you shut it off. Most everyone here has it too. I know I do. annoying, but nothing to worry about. Just part of the non EFI charm of the roadstar. When we got to town after a group dinner ride tonight mine did the ususal zing and woof. then one of the guys wanted to hear my exhaust and ofcourse it smelled like gas and didnt want to start for being flooded.
