I've had lots of problems getting mine back on just right, but have never had a problem getting it off. You may contact a dealer. Hopefully they'll be able to give you advice so you can get it off without taking it into the shop!

Good luck,
Lynn

Lynn:

Sometimes if I don't have my seat aligned properly and lock in the front, the back of the seat wiggles and I have a hard time getting the lock to release. The cure I've found is to sit on the seat and stand up when I hear the lock click. I think the deal is that it realigns the lock enough for it to release....

MM911,

There's only a few things that can go wrong. Finding out which one has gone wrong for you can take the frustration out of it, and get you back on track. The possiblities, as I see it, are:

* The key-switch
- Does the key turn properly to the seat release position?
Yes: move along to the next possibility
No: Does the key feel a little 'springy' or spongy, but doesnt turn?
Yes: The cable-to-seat catch may be stuck or broken
No: Either the switch is defective or the cable is stuck or broken
* The release cable
- Does the key turn, but you feel a dragging, or sluggish twist?
Yes: the cable is dirty, gummy, or damaged
No: move along to the next possibility
* The cable to seat catch
- Does the key feel a little 'springy' or spongy, but doesnt turn?
Yes: The cable-to-seat catch may be stuck or broken
No: move along to the next possibility

* The seat
- If the key turns properly to the seat release position (or mostly so), and has little or no feeling of drag when turning, the seat is probably misaligned in its front mount. You must do your best to reposition it. Try sitting on it while 'keying' or pushing or lifting in various ways. If hard force has not worked, try medium force or light force--all while attempting the key release (at normal tensions).

Mine got stuck once, and it was the seat position. However, I've been meaning to lube the cable soon, too. Sometimes minor problems are compounded by poor maintenance.

I've read many posts about this on the Delphi Forums Road Star Riders forum...so you're not alone.

Good luck.

I don't know about the rest of you but, I looked at my key today and noticed it was bent! I must be in too much of a hurry to get my seat off. I'm gonna keep my helmet on the sissy bar from now on!
