Relocating Fuel pump 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Maybe some one can help me out with this one. I moved the fuel pump under the tank today. I placed it parallel to the backbone up as far as I could get it against the area just behind the ignition switch. Really tight fit. I had to force the tank back into place the last 3/8 of an inch.
When I turned on the key... whew what a noise. It sounded like a hammer drill for a minute or two. Was that the sound of it priming up. The bike started up perfectly and the sound went away mostly but I still hear it tapping a single beat when riding, inconsistently but it is there. I know that the pump is against the side of the tank and I suspect that I am going to have to move it.
Does any know if turning it crosswise will work? I really don't want to move it into the side case.
It is a 2005 Silverado.
Thanks
Scott

Scott, I don't think the orientation of the pump would matter at all, probably work in any position, although it does have a drain hole in the bottom in case it gets water in it...the gas tank makes a great amplifier huh..

Just goes to show how you get used to the normal noises of the r* and how a new one really gets your attention.

It fits fine under the right side cover and uses the stock rubber mounting bracket. No sounds of vibration. It does take more hose but it works.

I used the Barons kit and put it under the right cover. Relaly makes your engine look good. That said I really want to dump it completely. I just can't believe that Yamaha had to put one on becasue the float bowl was too small. SO I am working out all the alternatives. I like my bike lean and clean and that pump relaly needs to go.

Re:Relocating Fuel pump 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Well, I ended up having to move the pump into the right side cover after all. Used about 4.5 foot of fuel line and I just cut loose the original connector and extended the wiring back to the new location so that I could easily remove the pump if I needed to. So that's done.
Only one thing that I noticed was that the relays in the right side cover were not the same as the ones pictured in the technical article and were mounted differently than shown. That made for a real squeeze when I screwed down the side cover but it shut. Must be the difference in year of manufacture.
Thanks to the guys for recommendations/comments.
