Another front pulley question... 3 Years, 11 Months ago
Hey all!

I've come across a 32 tooth warrior front pulley for next to nothing and I want to know if I can use it in place of my 33 tooth stocker.

Also...do I need a different belt?

If the slot that the rear axle bolt is in is long enough to accomodate using the smaller pulley then you can use the same belt. If the slot is not long enough now or if it becomes not long enough because of belt stretch then you need a shorter belt.

I successfully run a 31 tooth pulley with a stock belt.
The bolt is right at the end of the slot.
For my big ass the 31 tooth pulley is just right.

MEASURE HOW WIDE YOUR BELT IS AND THE NEW PULLEY. THE WARRIORS AND THE NEWER STARS HAVE A NARROWER BELT. I TRIED ONE ON MY 02. BORONS 31 TOOTH FOR WARRIOR CAN WORK BECAUSE IT HAS ONLY ONE BELT GUIDE ON IT. THE 31 MAX'S OUT THE BELT TENTION ADJUSTMENT.

How much extra performance does one get from the 31 tooth pulley? and what do you sacrifice at the top end on the highway??? I typically cruise at 70 on the Texas highways, but I would like to get a bit more "pull" in the lower gears. Comments are appreciated..

You might consider a 32 tooth if you have a 1600. It's less 'buzzy' on the highway than the 31.

You can also pick up a used 1700 32 tooth cheaper than a 31.

For me the 32 is the best of both worlds - nice strong start off the line, comfortable cruising at 80 mph or so with the buzzing.

I have the 1700 which came with the 32t stock I switched to the 31 and it was not a WOW this is WAY faster but, it made it just right the way the roadie should be my grin is just a little bigger when I take off from the stop sign and I do not notice any real difference on the freeway until 85+mph but, I don't need to go that fast (I want to....but, I don't need to)
