SPEEDSTAR IGNITION 3 Years, 10 Months ago
HI ALL,
JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS DONE THE STAGE 1 MOD (SPEEDSTAR IGNITION MODULE, JET KIT, BREATHER), AND IF YOU HAVE, WERE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN GETTING IT TO RUN PROPERLY, AND DID YOU HAVE THE YAMAHA INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS PN#PAK-5VN09-00-01. I'VE BEEN WORKING IT FOR TWO DAYS NOW AND CAN'T GET IT TO IDLE WHEN HOT. I HAVE GOBS OF MORE DETAIL AND HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING SHORT OF GOING BACK STOCK (AS SOMEONE SUGESTED) BUT THATS NOT MY OBJECTIVE, JUST LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS SOME EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SPECIFIC MODIFICATION THAT CAN SHARE SOME KNOWLEGE (SUSPECT BAD IGNITION MODULE FROM SUPPLIER). THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE WASTED ANY GREY MATTER READING OR RESPONDING.
STEVE
P.S. YAMAHA NO LONGER SHOWS THE PN# LISTED ABOVE OR I WOULD HAVE ONE.

I have the speedstar ignition, jet kit, airfilter, and long drag pipes. My pms was at 2.5 but a recent plug change me made me change to 3. My bike runs great I have always believed if you have the aftermarket filter you need the pipes. The more air you let in the more air you need to let out.

WELL I'M BACK,

BIKE SEEMS TO BE RUNNING GOOD WITH STOCK IGN. MOD (SOUTH SEATTLE SPORTS SAID RETURN SPEEDSTAR MOD AND THEY WOULD WARANTY IT, WE'LL SEE!). M170 MAIN 5TH CLIP, STOCK PILOT #35, 3 TURNS PMS. SEEMS TO BE RUNNING AS GOOD AS I CAN GET IT, A VERY SLIGHT SURGE CRUISING STEADY BUT MAY BE MY IMAGINATION. PERFORMED WOT TEST SEEMS TO BE RIGHT ON THE CUSP WHATEVER THAT MEANS. WILL KEEP AN EYE ON IT AND AM OPEN TO ANY FURTHER TWEEKING SUGESTIONS. THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE HELPED! IF I RECEIVE A NEW SPEEDSTAR IGN MOD. SHOULD I INSTALL IT OR SELL IT? WILL IT EFFECT THE JETTING/SETUP? STILL HAVE STOCK PIPES, K&N SPEEDSTAR FILTER.
THANKS,
STEVE

I would try dropping down to the 4th and see what that does for your surging and may even run better. Is that the 5th clip out of 6 notches, or 5th clip out of 5 notches?
