#98182 oklardstar (User) oklardstar Fresh Boarder Posts: 10 TIRE SIZES!! 6 Months, 1 Week ago   Hello, I am currently considering buying a new set of tires for my roadie. I'm currently still running the stock set and with 6,300 miles on them the rear is getting pretty slick. My buddy has a set of HD tire that are nearly new and the price is under $50 for the set(but it makes me sick thinking of the HD name anywere on my RD*). The size of the HD tires are D402F MT90B16 front, D402 MT90B16 Rear, which I belive converts to a 130/90-16 on the front and 130/90-16 on the rear. I know the front tire is the same, but the rear is what makes me have questions, does anyone out there know if the narrow tire will make that much of a differece, and has anyone else out there tried this before? The rear will fit and won't hurt anything, so go ahead and use it. Most riders are trying to put wider tires on to get a biger footprint and better traction, when you do that you run into clearance problems. The R* rear rim is wider than the front so if you put the same size tire on as the front on a wider rim you are going to loose a tad of tire height. I don't think I would go with a smaller tire on the rear for several reasons. One being that the side wall will have a shallower grip area.
