TIRE SIZES!! 4 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Hello, I am currently considering buying a new set of tires for my roadie. I'm currently still running the stock set and with 6,300 miles on them the rear is getting pretty slick. My buddy has a set of HD tire that are nearly new and the price is under $50 for the set(but it makes me sick thinking of the HD name anywere on my RD*). The size of the HD tires are D402F MT90B16 front, D402 MT90B16 Rear, which I belive converts to a 130/90-16 on the front and 130/90-16 on the rear. I know the front tire is the same, but the rear is what makes me have questions, does anyone out there know if the narrow tire will make that much of a differece, and has anyone else out there tried this before? Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated, thanks chad

oklardstar,

Might be worth the time to search on "tires" in the forum. I'm still running stock sizes, so I can't help with your sizing question.

sorry i'm running a 240 but i don't think you would want to go to a thinner tire besides it may look a little funny

The front is the proper size and of course is fine. The rear will fit and won't hurt anything, so go ahead and use it. Most riders are trying to put wider tires on to get a biger footprint and better traction, when you do that you run into clearance problems.

Sounds like the HD tires are the same size. The R* rear rim is wider than the front so if you put the same size tire on as the front on a wider rim you are going to loose a tad of tire height. I don't think I would go with a smaller tire on the rear for several reasons. One being that the side wall will have a shallower grip area. JMHO Tires and brakes arn't something to skimp on in my openion.

Thanks for the help everyone, it did a little more research and found out the metric sizes for the HD tires were a 130/90-16 Front and a 130/90-16 Rear so the rear would be a bitt narrower than stock since the stock one is a 150/80-16, anyway thanks for all the opinons and keep them comming
