It's because we live in Michigan and it's a no fault state. We are one of the most expensive states when it comes to vehicle insurance. My F6B is $955 per year and I have a clean record. That's some horse crap.

Lots of factors from your age & record to what you're insuring and your location all go into play to determine your price (risk).

A couple years ago I sold a new R1 to a 21 year old kid fresh out of the military after serving combat duty, now living in Miami FL.
You practically couldn't invent a worst case scenario for insurance risk, except he had a good driving record with no tickets or accidents.
His full-coverage insurance payments are $1500 MONTHLY.
Imagine what they'd be if he had a crappy driving record ...

Simple math:
Buy a bike for $16,000. Pay $18,000/year to insure it.

Yeah, he makes really good money.

That was the boat I was in when I bought my first R1 when I was 19. More per year for full coverage than the bike was worth. Yeah, I paid cash, went basic coverage, and may have had a few 'lapses' here and there back in those days

I wonder if your insurance would be cheaper if you didn't ride your motorcycles into the side of mountains.

I've got three teenagers on my policy so I'm screwed! I pay $450 per month for full coverage on two cars and liability only on the bike and my son's truck. No tickets and I'm 50 years old, only accident wasn't my fault about 3 years ago but the bastard didn't have a license or insurance so my insurance had to pay for my totaled car. Just got a quote from Progressive for $102 for the entire year for the bike which is a little less than half what I pay with State Farm.

Insurance costs are near impossible to compare....it varies by what you are insuring, what its worth, how much you are insuring for, where you are located and your personal history. Its a big ass matrix.
No matter how much it is, its too much.
