No secret here. Being 'vertically challenged', I'd really like to have either a Fatboy or Heritage Classic. Of course, I don't have a RoadStar, either, so can't compare the two! One of these days, I'll have to let go of my trusty little Honda Aero!!

No secret here either,,I love the Road Kings and the Softail Deluxes. Iwas at the local dealer tonight and was paid a nice compliment by the Harley salesperson. he was real familar with the Roadies and suggested that I wouldnt be as satisfied with one of theres unless I went towards a touring bike. Some thruth to that. I also like the Fatboys but I would want one partially dressed with bags and windshield.

I like the Heritage Softail Classic and the Road King... Love the hard bags with a fairing, and I also love that classic spoked, deep fender, whitewall look. But yeah, its difficult to justify that much more for ... well, I wouldn't like to say the same product as both Star adn Harley have their pros and cons, but yeah. The difference in price is not in proportion to the difference in product

My last post on this and then I'm done.

To me, HD is less a motorcycle maker and more of a marketing company that happens to sell motorcycles. I'd love to see a spreadsheet that shows total income of two wheeled inventory vs everything else. It wouldn't surprise me to see the income from licensed merch. exceed income from bikes. Is there anything out there that Harley won't license to have their logos plastered on it?

I think it's brilliant from a business point of view! Not only do you get all the folks who sign on the line to buy a bike sucked into the "Harley Lifestyle"(and the apparent requirement that you buy everything with a HD logo), but you also get all the true wanna-be folks who can't actually buy a bike, but they can swing the extra $5 added to the price of a zippo just because it has the logo of the sacred HD.

I think they're missing a HUGE market opportunity though. I couldn't find any valid results when I tried to google the words "Harley Davidson Condom". Can you imagine the number of those they'd sell if they'd put it in a black and orange foil wrapper(in the shape of a motorcycle wheel) and called it the "Fat Boy"????

See ya, I gotta call Willie G. and see if I can get the rights to get these to market!!

Ya I had a desire for the Heritage as well or the EG Classic. But no matter how many times I rode them I still found them small and ill fitting. Though they were better suited to the female frame really. No offense to anyone but they were that small to me. I am not huge either 6' 220 so for the larger dudes can't imagine how they do it.

As far as profits go the did actually make nore money on merchandise than bikes. It is all that was keeping them out of bankruptcy in previous years. Not sure of how it goes now though.

By the way I did own a Harley dirt bike. If memory serves it was a 125cc made by AMF/Harley in the seventies. Piece of crap out of the box. I think AMF did more damage to Harley's rep than anything could.

Since I can't ride and I'm still paying for my roadstar, I have been doing alot of window shopping over the last year. I love the superglide custom and the street bob. The price is what I can handle but these to have problems. A few of my friends have new harleys and they all complain about the heat this new motor puts out. My neighbor just sold his 08 ultra classic because he could not take it any more (it was that bad) Since I got screwed over by Yamaha I have researched the piss out of everything I'm interested in and found this. http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hd2007HD_heat_00.htm Will the 450.00 upgrade make that much of a difference I don't know but I figure someone else can be the guinie pig for a while. If you go to other bike forums it seems all mother companys say "THAT'S NORMAL" when we know different.
