Speaker pod options? 4 Months, 1 Week ago
Anyone have an alternative to the Hogtunes speaker pods? New is about 345.00 and the used ones I have found are pretty bad. any ideas on other manufactures? I am still putting together the components for my trunk and would prefer to mount everything at one time.

Thanks Dave, I am really kind of looking for the Hogtunes style. I'm not having much success.

javawave if you find speaker pods let me know I have been looking for months with no luck. Dragaonfly has some for $200.00 just for the pods.
I think that's too expensive. So I will continue to look for used ones.

Yes I found those too, and yes they are too expensive for what they are.

You're talking rear speakers HD style, right? They are just boxes, aren't they? Can't you make your own?

Yes, probably. But they are plastic and have two funny angles. If I were to make my own they would not look near as well as the ones the trunk was designed for. I have looked at several out door speaker to see if I could modify them, but nothing would look it is should.

Couldn't you use wood?

You know I rented a HD Ultra Classic about 2 months ago and from the rider's seat, I couldn't hear the rear speakers. I was less than impressed with the HD stereo on the road. It got distorted @ 50MPH.

If you don't like the home grown version and don't want to spend $200+, perhaps you can find a wrecked HD and see if you can buy the boxes cheap. Check HD forums.

I check the hd forum everyday. Even the 10 year old ones sell for about 250 bucks. I am suprised to hear you didnt like the stereo on the Ultra. I rode one last week end for almost 150 miles. thought the sound system was great. I was very impressed.

Re:Speaker pod options? 4 Months ago
perhaps someone blew the speakers on the one I rented. It is better than a venture stereo by far; but still; I wasn't that impressed. The best I've heard was on a quadzilla.

IMHO, if getting speaker pods, I'd go the dragonfly route and be done with it; it'll fit a 6.5 inch speaker (aka more bass) and looks decent. Its only money and its not mine Think of it this way... its only $100 each.

Getting a WOC fairing and putting my own stereo & speakers in it and perhaps a rear trunk and rear pods like you want. Probably a Pioneer Premiere stereo (DEH-P4000U and probably infinity speakers (REF5022I) in the fairing. Unfortunately, this won't be this year.

Would the trunk and attached pods be easily removed for security purposes? There are scum out there.
