Shell gas bad??? 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
O.K. Ive been using mostly B.P. or Marathon gas because thats about all thats around here. Never had a problem with the gas. About 6 weeks ago I filled up with Shell.. 4.5 gals.... Within 10 miles the bike started running bad. The more I drove the worse it got. After I ran about 120 miles, I drained what was left into my gas can at home, and filled with marathon. 10 miles or so down the road she came back to life, now.... I havent touched shell gas since. Monday, 6 weeks later I was ridin with a friend in some new territory, we both needed gas, I was already on reserve. Whats the only thing we found?.... Shell. So I just figured go ahead and fill it, the last time it most have been a bad batch of gas. WRONG, after I went about 20 miles towards the house, she started poppin thru the carb..(which she never does).. and losing power. Reminded me of the old SVS days. I had to go 120 miles home and man did she run like crap. Update: Drained it again yesterday, got a couple gallons out, filled with marathon again, ran the heck out of it today, and shes back to her old self! All of this done without additives just to make sure it was the gas. Question, anybody else have this problem with Shell?? I thought it was good gas...cleaner valve adds and all. B.T.W. It was 2 different shell's, 100 miles apart.

Gas is the same as oil. You have to run what the bike likes.

I hear ya Musky...thats why I normally stick with Marathon here. It was just such a radical change...... honestly, I thought my SVS came back. I couldnt keep up with a 79" gl 1000 wing.

Might just be a bad shell supplier here...wouldnt notice it in a car but the bike! Like I said I thought SVS had struck again or it was half water.

I run nothing but shell if I can help it. At least in the bike. I run anything and everything in the car. I have never had a problem with the Shell. Surprised to hear it.

I run SHELL normally, although I have ran some other brands when out on a trip. Never noticed any problems. In Oregon, all brands have to have 10% Ethanol, so not much choice there. However, I haven't noticed any significant change since I started burning the ethanol additive.

The biggest complaint I've heard from any fellow riders is that they can tell I'm running SHELL, just by the smell of the exhaust.

Just my 2 cents.

Rooster.

Haven't tried Shell, but I avoid Valero and swear by Chevron...just runs smoother...
