to answer your question Gunhead you can take LOTS off. I have two file boxes full of stuff that I have taken off and only a cople fo the items were due to replacement. the reflectors were the first thing off followed by the badges and decals. Wait until you see the pile of stuff that comes off if you do the AIS removal and fuel pump relocation....you won't believe how much you got rid of.

Hey Gunhead ! You can fill those holes in your bags by getting some Conchos that have a screw in the back. You may need to get some longer screws and small washers as I did, if you want to bolt through the plastic also. And be sure to use lock tight!

Actually, what I was thinking of doing, after going outside and looking at the bike, is to remove the brackets, use a Dremel w/ cutoff wheel to get rid of the reflector "branch," touch up the cut areas with some black touch-up paint that I have, and then replace the modified brackets. What do you think?
That is what I did to mine. Looks great.

You'll have to get the onger screws and some washers if you want to go through the plastic support which I recommend! Get multiple washer to play around for a tight dry fit, and then put em' on with blue lock tight!
