It may sound like it is really screwed up, but it has to be a common short. Some where in that system something is going to ground. It could be in the fuse holder, if you have made any electrical wiring changes check there first, I have been thru a similar situation with my Harley. If you used "elect" tape to cover any splices or connections instead of heat shrink, check there. It only takes one fine strand to puncture the tape to cause a short.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago & found a bad connector in the right side passing lamp. Replaced the connector, heat shrunk it and no problems since.

My problem turned out to be that the lamp was touching the switch and causing it to short. I decided to jump the switch out and move it to just under the triple tree. I used double sided mounting tape to hold the switch in place , now I can hit the switch without getting off the bike
